My 12 year old brother wanted to use the pool at the gym while I was working out. When we went to scan our members cards, the woman at the sign-in desk pointed out that he was under 13; therefor could not use the equipment, but we assured her that he just wanted to swim and she let us in. About 15 minutes later the same woman comes up to me on the elliptical and begins yelling at me, saying, “The pool is closed and you left this child locked outside by the pool, unsupervised. The child-watch area is also closed so he has no where to go. Until he has a full membership, this kind of behavior is unacceptable at our facility.” First of all, if the pool was closed, you shouldn’t have let us in to use it! Second of all, the door was unlocked when I watched him go out to the pool, which means that someone came and locked it while he was outside! I reminded her, very politely, that she was fully aware that he came to use the pool and she responded, “I didn’t know what time it was. Since you’re too busy working out to supervise him, I’ll let him sit over in those chairs and wait on you this time, but this kind of behavior will not be accepted in the future.” Um, what the hell? How was my behavior unacceptable? If it’s your job to make sure that only members are allowed in the gym, and that children under the age of 13 are only allowed in the pool, shouldn’t pay attention to whether the pool is open when you let someone in to use it?! Also, before locking the doors, maybe check to make sure no one is out there! Who is she to judge me for working out? I didn’t bring my brother to pawn him off on them so I could exercise; I brought him so he wouldn’t be sitting at home watching tv! But, yeah, thanks for your kind offer to let him sit in a corner, no thanks, I’ll leave so you can blame someone else next time you screw up your job.
